Bismi Allah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem

    abas wa tawalla

(The Prophet) frowned and turned away,

    an Jaa'ahu Al-A'ma

Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting).

    vama yoodrik la'aluhu Yezzaka

But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?-

    ow yazzakkaru fatanfahu

Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him?

    amma manei

As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient,

    fa-anta tasadda

    To him dost thou attend;

    vama alayka Alla

Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding).

    wa amma man Jaaaka Yas'a

But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly,

    Wahuwah yakhsha

And with fear (in his heart),

    fa-anta anhu tallahya

    Of him wast thou unmindful.

    Innaha Tazkirah

By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction:

    faman shaa dhakarah

Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance.

(It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour,

    mootahharah

Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy,

    be-yadi safare

(Written) by the hands of scribes-

    Kerami Bararah

    Honourable and Pious and Just.

    kootila Al-insan akfaruhu

    Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah;

    Ay-yi shay Khalaqahu

From what stuff hath He created him?

    min nutfa Khalaqahu Faqadarhu

    From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions;

    thumma As-sabeel Yas-sa-ra-hu

    Then doth He make His path smooth for him;

    thumma amatahoo Fa'akbarahu

    Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave;

    thumma eeza shaa Ansharah

Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again).

    Lama Yaqdhi amarah

By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him.

    Falyandhur Al-insan ila ta'aamihee

Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it):

    anna sababna Al-maa sabban

For that We pour forth water in abundance,

    thumma Shaqna Al-ard Shakka

And We split the earth in fragments,

    fa-anbtnā feeha habben

    And produce therein corn,

    wa enab Waqadhba

    And Grapes and nutritious plants,

For use and convenience to you and your cattle.

    feidha jaat As-sākhah

At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,-

    yaum yafirru Al mar-oo uh-khee-yee-hee

That Day shall a man flee from his own brother,

    Wa-ummihi waa bihee

And from his mother and his father,

    wasaahibateehi vabaniehi

And from his wife and his children.

Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others.

    wojuh yawma'ithin moos-feer-ah

Some faces that Day will be beaming,

    dhaahikah mustabshirah

    Laughing, rejoicing.

    vovoojoo Yawmaidhin alayha ghabarah

And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,

    tarhakuha Qatarah

    Blackness will cover them:

    ula-ika hum Al-ka-fa-ra Al-fajra

Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity.
